GET TO KNOW PSDPC CLUB MEMBERS!

Kim Schoning

As the Club’s Specialty Show Chair, I am getting to know club members as we volunteer and work together to put on the two specialty shows in June and November. We need volunteers so come on out and have some fun with us!

How many Dobermans do you have? How many have you had in the past?

I currently have one Doberman:  Angus aka MBIS MBISS GCHG Starlaine Standing Ovation WAC DN.  Angus is my 6th Doberman since 1996 and my first show dog. I was a pet owner until I requested show quality in 2018. I have learned a TON in the show community and have met so many amazing people across the country all because of Angus!!

How did Angus get his name?

I attended an AC/DC concert in 2016 and decided then and there my next Doberman would be named Angus after their lead guitarist, Angus Young. I requested a black male so I would have a Black Angus (having grown up on a farm with Black Angus cows). The litter was born and there was a black male going to a different home so I was offered a red male who was show quality with a beautiful head. “Sure, why not” was my response, knowing there were also Red Angus cows. Turns out Angus is a Scottish name and the name for a red male just fits.

How many other pets do you have?

I also have a Paint horse named Leo who is 24 years old and I recently inherited my Dad’s 11 yo Golden Retriever, Buddy Ray. Angus and Buddy Ray have known each other Angus’ whole life and get along well. Buddy Ray is taking dock diving lessons at Brown Dog University in Gig Harbor and I hope to compete with him at the Labor Day competition. My Dad would love that Buddy Ray is having so much fun trying new sports.

How long have you been with the Club and what activities do you do as a PSDPC member?

I’ve been with PSDPC since 2020. I have volunteered at the Agility trials every July and now am the Club’s Specialty Show Chair and I’m excited to work with the club as we put on some great events to show off our dogs!

What do you like best about it?

I love the Doberman community and the people. All of the Dobermans in our club are awesome whether they are titled or pets! We have a lot of amazing Doberman owners with tons of experience and I appreciate their willingness to share their knowledge.

What do you hope to see the Club do better?

My hope is that more club members would get involved no matter what sport they enjoy with their Doberman. Spending time with like-minded Doberman owners is the best! As well as promoting the breed. What’s your favorite thing to do with your dog(s)?

One of my favorite things to do with Angus is paddle boarding on local lakes. We started practicing on the board in my front yard and when I was confident he would stay on the board, we went to a local lake and tried it out. He did great! I wasn’t sure if Angus went off the board if I would be able to get an 85 lb dog back on the board by myself. Well… one day while on the lake he decided to take a step off. I had practiced so many times in my head so when it happened in real life I stayed calm, even though we were both shocked. He swam back to me and I was able to grab the handle on his life vest and pull him back up. Let’s just say he stayed near me the rest of the time on the lake! Angus LOVES to run and can run for hours! I usually take him out to the military property for a good run and to burn off some energy.

What do you plan to do this year with your dog?

Right now Angus is still being campaigned and when he comes home I’ll work on some back-end titles. I’ll pick up dock diving next season and I want to try agility, barn hunt, scentwork, and so much more!
